Highland dancing is a competitive solo dancing that requires agility, technique and stamina. The dance form evolved in the Scottish Highlands in 19th and 20th centuries to be performed in competitions at public events such as the Highland games.

Highland dancers wear special shoes and dance on the balls of the feet and perform to the accompaniment of Highland bagpipe music.
