This dance is mostly performed by men in groups during religious festivities. Pata is bamboo decorated with different color of ribbon. A 10 to 15 feet long bamboo pole is decorated with ribbons and usually silver or brass umbrellas crown the poles. The dancers hold the pole in their right hand and a cloth in their left hand and dance to the tune of the music. They move back and forth, in steps, in circle and various other formation.

This popular dance is performed around the rural parts of Bangalore, Mysore, Tumkur and Mandya by people of Vaishnava sect.
